WOW! What a busy start to primary 5. The class have come back after the Summer Holidays raring to go and we are all looking forward to an enjoyable year in Room 9.

Our context for learning this term, is “Castles and Clans”. The class have shared what they would like to find out about and are looking forward to exploring famous Scottish Castles and their different features. We will investigate what life was like in a medieval castle and compare it to life today. The class have enjoyed using different construction materials to build their own castles.

We have started to explore Children’s Rights. One of our first tasks in term 1 was to create our Superhero Class Charter, a reminder that we all have different strengths and that we make a great team!

Our rights focus this term are:

Article 7 – Name and Nationality

Article 8 – Identity.

Our Health and Wellbeing focus this term is Friendships and Feelings. We are using the ICE Pack resource to explore qualities that make a good friend and explore different feelings and strategies we can use when we feel a certain way. We have created a “Class Engine”, and every morning we decide if our “engines” are running slow, too fast or just right! If we are running too fast or too slow, we can do stretches or breathing activities to make sure our engines are running just right.

Room 9 enjoy having Mrs Watt on a Wednesday and Thursday morning where they get the chance develop their ICT skills and explore Beyond Number topics in Numeracy and during term 1, the class will explore 2D and 3D shapes.

We are excited for a jampacked Term 1 and look forward to sharing our learning with you all.
