P6 rm12 miss raith

At the beginning of Primary 6, we created our class charter by discussing and agreeing on our rules and expectations.  We explored the UNCRC, learning more about our rights and selecting the ones we felt were most important to us.

In class, we earn house points by demonstrating our school values – ready, respectful and safe.  Each day, a secret star student is chosen, and if they’ve demonstrated our values and followed our class charter, then their identity is revealed at the end of the day.  We also take part in, “Beat the teacher,” and if we succeed in beating Miss Raith, we win a class reward!

In numeracy, we have started the year by consolidating our place value knowledge.  We have also been practicing our mental maths skills, particularly focusing on our times table recall.

This term, our topic is World War Two and we’ve been thoroughly enjoying our lessons.  So far, we’ve explored the Allied and Axis powers, examined wartime propaganda, and learned about the dramatic events of, “The Blitz.”  There will be lots of opportunities for us to link our topic learning to other areas of the curriculum.  Already, we’ve created some impressive artwork, and in writing, we’re focusing on narrative texts.  Using inspiration from our World War Two topic will help us to create vivid characters and settings, with a focus on developing our VCOP skills.

Our class novel this term is, “Goodnight Mister Tom,” by Michelle Magorian.  Through this story we will gain an insight into evacuation during the war.  Each week will complete tasks linked to the novel, with a focus on developing different reading skills.

We have been enjoying our PE lessons with Mr Wright on a Tuesday afternoon and Thursday morning.
